Mission Statement

The Dana Brown Charitable Trust helped underwrite some of the costs associated with establishing and maintaining key aspects of JF&CS’ Child Abuse Prevention Program which identifies children at risk of abuse and neglect and provides education to children, parents and teachers with the skills to prevent or lessen harm in the instance of an abusive event.

In 2015, the CAP Program reached almost 27,000 children, parents and teachers at more than 100 school sites in the Greater St. Louis Metropolitan Area.

Thanks to the support of The Dana Brown Charitable Trust those 27,000 individuals learned child safety, sexual abuse recognition and prevention. Children, specifically, were taught how to distinguish between appropriate and inappropriate touching, learned and practiced response skills and were educated about tricks used by potential abusers, and how identify people who can help.

Outcome measures showed a 58% increase in knowledge gained after participation in the program with a retention rate of 86.5% over a three month period following the program. Of parents and teachers surveyed, 100% would recommend the program to others.
